Private AI
AI for your notes — on your terms, or not at all.
Improve, summarise, or continue a selection with a local model or your own API key. NoteLace never runs the model and never sees your notes; the AI talks only to the provider you choose.
14-day free trial, no card required. macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Bring your own key, or run it locally
Select some text and ask the assistant to tighten it, summarise it, or continue it. You decide where that request goes: point it at a local Ollama model so nothing leaves your machine, or use your own API key with a provider you already trust. Either way, you’re in control of the model and the data path.
NoteLace stays out of the loop
NoteLace doesn’t host a model, doesn’t proxy your prompts, and doesn’t see your notes. The connection is between your app and the provider you configured — there’s no NoteLace AI server sitting in the middle collecting your writing.
Optional, and off by default
The assistant is a tool you reach for, not a feature looking over your shoulder. It’s off until you set it up, and it never acts on a note without you asking. The rest of NoteLace — Markdown, links, views, search, sync — works exactly the same whether or not you ever turn AI on.
Frequently asked questions
- Does NoteLace send my notes to an AI company?
- Only if you set up the assistant and trigger it — and then only the selection you act on, sent to the provider you chose. NoteLace never sees your notes; it doesn’t run or proxy the model.
- Can I use a local model?
- Yes. Point the assistant at a local Ollama model and nothing leaves your machine. You can also use your own API key with a hosted provider.
- Is AI required to use NoteLace?
- No. It’s entirely optional and off by default. Every other feature works without it.
- Is there an extra AI fee?
- NoteLace doesn’t charge for AI — you bring your own key or run a local model, so any model costs are between you and your provider (a local model is free to run).
